The Gotthard Base Tunnel


The Gotthard Base Tunnel is a railway tunnel through the Alps in Switzerland officially opened on 1 June 2016, with scheduled commercial services from December 2016. With a route length of 57.09 km (35.5 mi) and a total of 151.84 km (94.3 mi) of tunnels, shafts and passages, it is the world's longest and deepest traffic tunnel and the first flat low-level route through the Alps.

The Ambiance of Uncertainty – Zygmunt Bauman


Zygmunt Bauman (19 November 1925) is a Polish sociologist. He has resided in England since 1971 after being driven out of Poland by an anti-semitic campaign engineered by the Communist government. Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Leeds, Bauman is one of the world's most eminent social theorists writing on issues as diverse as modernity and the Holocaust, postmodern consumerism and liquid modernity.

Here is his talk to ResetDoc about Europe, migrations and modernity, in 2010. In light of recent developments, this talk is more significant than ever.

Chaser, the Genius Dog

Chaser knows over a thousand words, more than any other animal of any species except humans. Based on that learning, she and her owner and trainer, retired psychologist John Pilley, have demonstrated that she understands sentences and learns new behaviors by imitation. John's approach has opened the door to a new understanding of animal intelligence and his training methods can be adopted by any dog lover.
